Cybit wins off-board driver navigation order from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance

  • Smartnav to provide certification body with live traffic information and directions to avoid traffic ‘hot spots’
  • Enables LRQA to enhance customer service and reduce pressures of travel by keeping employees informed of traffic conditions and helping them to stay in control of their journey

Cybit, the UK’s leading online telematics service provider, has won an order from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) to provide its management system auditors with an off-board satellite navigation solution. Smartnav will provide field-based LRQA employees with live traffic information and directions to help avoid congestion and respond to changing traffic conditions. Installing Smartnav into its fleet will help LRQA to enhance customer service and reduce the pressures of travel by keeping employees informed of traffic conditions and helping them stay in control of their journey.

LRQA provides independent third party approval of quality, health and safety, environmental and information security management systems for a broad range of private and public sector organisations throughout the UK. Using the Cybit solution will enable LRQA’s auditors to maintain high levels of customer service through more efficient route planning, responding to changing traffic conditions and using Smartnav’s personal assistant service to call ahead if they are stuck in traffic.

LRQA's facilities officer, Claire Costain, looked at the satellite navigation systems available on the market and decided to opt for Smartnav from Cybit. "There seemed to be very few intelligent systems on the market which combine the navigation facility with the capability of avoiding traffic 'hot spots' and congestion," she said. "We were looking for a cost-effective system that was easy and convenient to use and, following the positive feedback from the pilot that we undertook with a small group of our assessors, we felt that Smartnav from Cybit met our requirements.

"The system will be installed into newly registered vehicles in a rolling programme over the next three years. We expect the technology to help our assessors reach our customers on time with as little disruption and stress as possible to their journey," Claire Costain continued.

John Wisdom, Sales and Marketing Director at Cybit added: "There is a clear requirement for organisations such as LRQA to use telematics to provide genuine driver benefits. With the changes in mobile phone legislation and increasing levels of traffic congestion, it’s important that these organisations ensure Duty of Care by helping their employees avoid traffic delays, get directions when lost and reduce driver stress. Scalable, open solutions such as Smartnav help to ensure this while also helping to improve productivity and reduce operational costs."

Smartnav is an ‘off-board’ satellite navigation and route planning system that gathers real-time traffic information from an established network of cameras and sensors around the UK to provide drivers with up-to-the minute traffic information, directions and personal assistant services.
