Fleetstar-Online enables major Scottish fuel distributor to verify compliance with Road Transport Directive

  • 24/7 security functionality enables Bernard Brogan to track and recover vehicles quickly in the event of theft
  • Latest order demonstrates Cybit’s growing expansion in Scotland
Cybit, the UK’s leading online telematics service provider, has announced a major order from Scotland’s largest independent fuel distribution company, Bernard Brogan Limited. Bernard Brogan will install 50 units of Cybit’s Internet-based fleet and asset management solution, Fleetstar-Online, into its fleet of rigid tankers – used to deliver fuels and oils to the domestic, agricultural and commercial/construction sectors – and to its articulated haulage fleet. Fleetstar-Online will enable Bernard Brogan to produce in-depth reports on vehicle usage to ensure that it is fully compliant with new regulations set out by the Road Transport Directive, and will greatly enhance the security of its fleet.

Compliance with the Road Transport Directive – an offshoot of the Working Time Directive – is vital for companies that operate a fleet. The directive limits the number of hours a driver and crew can spend working to an average of 48 hours a week over a 17-week period. The real-time location information provided by the Cybit solution will allow Bernard Brogan to plan its distribution so that drivers don’t exceed the guidelines, and the solution’s extensive reporting functionality enables it to verify compliance in case of discrepancies.

“The security features offered by Fleetstar-Online were a major factor in our decision in addition to it providing compliance with the Road Transport Directive,” commented Andy McAvoy, Regional Manager, Bernard Brogan Limited. “Our loads are obviously extremely valuable and the 24/7 real-time location information offered by the Cybit solution allows us to track our vehicles in the event of theft to ensure that we are able to recover them as quickly as possible.

“With the Road Transport Directive now in effect we need a means to ensure that we are conforming with the legislation and decided that telematics would provide this,” added Andy McAvoy. “After looking at the various systems on the market we opted for Cybit because it offered the right solution for us, backed up by a strong level of service and support at a competitive price.”

“Bernard Brogan Limited is the latest Scottish organisation to recognise the real business benefits that are offered by leveraging Cybit’s telematics within its business processes,” commented John Wisdom, Director of Sales and Marketing, Cybit. “We are finding good market traction in Scotland with recent orders for Fleetstar-Online from organisations such as Tulloch, Turriff and Aberdeenshire Council.”

With initial entry-level costs from as little as £20 per vehicle per month, Cybit’s Fleetstar-Online solution is a flexible and scalable fleet and asset management solution that introduces a unique modular approach to fleet management. Scottish organisations have already switched to Fleetstar-Online from first generation solutions and are quickly benefiting from improved productivity, access to real-time operations data and 24/7 online visibility of current fleet positions via GPRS connectivity, and reduced operating costs. In addition they are realising added benefits such as the ability to validate timesheets and overtime claims, eliminate unauthorised mileage, and assure compliance with Health and Safety Legislation.
