Smith with complete visibility of its recovery and parts delivery operation

Fleetstar-Online provides Kerr & Smith with complete visibility of its recovery and parts delivery operation

  • Cybit solution enables Kerr & Smith’s recovery fleet to give customers accurate ETAs
  • Two-way messaging allows cost-effective communication with mobile workforce
Cybit, the UK’s leading online telematics service provider, has announced that one of Scotland’s leading independent motor trade groups, Kerr & Smith, has implemented Fleetstar-Online into its fleet of recovery and parts delivery vehicles. The increased fleet visibility offered by the Internet-based fleet and asset management solution will improve the overall level of service Kerr & Smith provides to both its trade and private customers, while Cybit’s comprehensive reporting functionality has enabled Kerr & Smith to monitor its vehicle usage and ensure Duty of Care.

Fleetstar-Online has been installed into 35 of Kerr & Smith’s recovery vehicles, parts delivery vans and the cars used by its sales team following an order secured through the Ewan Group – an accredited Cybit reseller. The Cybit solution enables Kerr & Smith to monitor its fleet in real-time, to provide customers with more accurate ETAs and improve planning and routing between customer sites. The two-way messaging functionality offered by the system also gives Kerr & Smith a cost-effective means of communication with its mobile workforce to inform them of any changes to scheduling or delivery plans.

“We were looking for a telematics solution that could deliver live visibility of our fleet on the latest mapping platform but within a competitive cost structure. After looking at around 12 different solutions, Cybit proved to be the company that could supply the ideal solution to meet these parameters,” commented Jim Smith, Partner at Kerr & Smith. “Cybit offered a fully interactive and user friendly GPRS tracking and mapping solution delivered directly to the desktop which was competitively priced.

“Our relationship with the local community is very important to us and the introduction of Fleetstar-Online will allow us to further enhance the level of service we can deliver to our customers,” continued Jim Smith. “It allows us to view the status of our recovery fleet in real-time which is very important as it enables us to give extremely accurate ETAs. We are also able to create locations on our system – such as customer premises – and date stamp when a vehicle enters or leaves this location. This allows us to verify when we made deliveries to which customers and how long our vehicle spent at a location. Another benefit of the solution is the ability to produce an in depth report about a vehicle’s movements over a given time frame.”

Group Director Sales and Marketing at Cybit John Wisdom commented: “This order from Kerr & Smith is further evidence of Cybit’s growing presence in Scotland. Organisations that operate fleets throughout the UK and Europe are beginning to explore the undoubted benefits that the implementation of telematics can offer. With the introduction of the Working Time Directive and the government already exploring the viability of telematics technology to link vehicle taxation to usage, forward thinking companies such as Kerr & Smith have embraced telematics as a value added proposition to help maximise operational efficiency and deliver a high level of customer service.”

Fleetstar-Online is Cybit’s scalable Internet-based telematics solution that features real-time vehicle tracking, exception reporting, replay mode, customised reports, mileage information, SMS messaging and live traffic information. By implementing Fleetstar-Online organisations are able to take advantage of the Norwich Union’s Fleet Telematics insurance offering. Fleet Telematics offers organisations that install Cybit’s telematics platform fixed insurance premiums for the two to three year duration of the agreement and also gives them the ability to earn a Risk Recognition Rebate of up to 16 per cent per annum for meeting risk management KPIs.
