Cybit, the UK’s leading supplier of online fleet management and telematics solutions, and Lex Vehicle Leasing, the UK’s leading contract hire company, have launched a major initiative which helps ffleet mmanagers meet the guidelines laid out under the Health and Safety Executive’s new ‘Driving at Work: Managing Work Related Road Safety’ report. Lex is mailing companies and offering organisations them a free pocket guide to the HSE’s Driving at Work guidelinestogether with which includes details on how an Cybit’s online telematics solution can assist them to manage and monitor their mobile workforce more effectively.
"The new Health and Safety Executive report outlines 60 recommendations for managing risks to drivers. These recommendations can be crucial to help prevent your company being charged with failing to exercise a duty of care to drivers at work," said Richard Horsman, Chief Executive of Cybit Holdings. "Cybit is now in the unique position of being able to work with industry specialists such as Lex Vehicle Leasing to roll-out a comprehensive range of value-added solutions that can help fleet operators ensure duty of care, while minimising risk and cutting fleet costs."
Jon Walden, Managing Director, Lex Vehicle Leasing, added: "The launch of the Government’s ‘Driving at Work’ report is a reminder of the growing burden placed on fleet managers to ensure driver safety and avoid risk of prosecution. Organisations with fleet operations are now faced with the scenario of being held legally responsible if, for example, one of their drivers is involved in a serious vehicle accident while on company business.
"This increased focus on duty of care is supported by the results of our recent findings into the fleet market – that concluded that health and safety issues are top of fleet managers’ agenda for the coming year. By working with Cybit on this major initiative, we can help organisations to exercise their duty of care by measuring and monitoring the performance of their mobile workers against a strict risk assessment policy."
The HSE’s Guidelines outline the requirement for companies not just to identify, and document the and assess risk assessment of for their staff while at work, regardless of where that is, ,both within and outside their place of work. but also Companies will also need to continually manage and monitor that risk. This - which isnot clearly an issue for those who work within the workplace – but for companies with a mobile workforce this may be an area of concern. However, by implementing the solutions offered by Cybit and Lex companies will have the enabling technologies to not only set parameters and standards of safety but also the ability to monitor their mobile workforce.Under the guidelines a company and its directors can be deemed liable if their drivers are given a schedule that doesn’t comply with the regulations – for example, too many hours behind the wheel.they can be shown to have been negligent in assessing and managing the risk for their staff and others from work related driving activity. Cybit’s solutions enable companies to plan routes and place parameters within those routes – such as recommended speeds, break stops etc. Reports are downloaded from the equipment within the vehicle and can be used to monitor and assess the driver’s movements. Many companies are unaware that the guidelines cover all vehicles that are driven by their employees on business regardless of whether it isthey are one purchased, leased or of their fleet or privately owned by the driver.
Cybit’s solutions enable management to measure and manage driver performance against the standards and policies set by their organisation. For example time behind the wheel, excessive speed and suitable rest breaks. Not only do Cybit’s solutions assist companies to comply with legislation, they also offer a number wide range of cost and efficiency benefits such as reduced unauthorised mileage, validation of timesheet and overtime claims and increased productivity.that enable organisations to reduce operating costs and increase productivity.
