DS2 and Works Systems announce availability of turn-key TR-069-managed home networking solution

  •  On-chip TR-069 support reduces equipment costs and provides real-time management of home networks.

Valencia, 27 March 2009 - DS2, the leading technology innovator and global supplier of high-speed powerline communications technology, and Works Systems, specialist in the development of Device Management Systems for Service Providers, announced today immediate availability of a TR-069-compliant home networking solution based on both companies' technologies.

TR-069 is a suite of standard protocols, created by the Broadband Forum, to manage end-user devices in broadband networks, such as DSL routers, IPTV Set-Top-Boxes or VoIP adapters. The DS2- Work Systems implementation provides a turn-key solution for equipment manufacturers and service providers that want to deploy a TR-069-managed powerline home network. Several IPTV service providers, including Portugal Telecom, currently deploy this solution. The solution allows service providers to perform several remote management tasks, such as upgrading the embedded firmware of all DS2-based powerline adapters in the home network, upload configuration parameters or performance logs to a central server to verify correct installation, and adding frequency notches to installed equipment.

"To succeed in today's competitive pay-TV market, Service Providers must meet subscribers' requirements for quality of experience. Many factors can have an impact on how users perceive the service, and the home network is one of the most important ones. We are very pleased to partner with Works Systems to offer IPTV service providers the possibility of deploying and managing powerline home networks in a cost-effective manner," said Pablo Gagliardo, DS2 Home Networking Product Marketing Manager. According to a 2008 Yankee Group study, more than 50 per cent of all first-year subscriber acquisition costs are due to technical and service support requirements. The remaining costs are due to the installation of the IPTV service at the subscriber's premises. Powerline home networks based on DS2's technology reduce these costs because they are easy to use, allow self installation and enable a two-way communications channel to the call centre, to improve customer support and service quality.

"Works Systems is proud to offer its extensive knowledge and experience in TR-069-based remote management through our partnership with DS2. Service providers worldwide require an easy-to-use and feature-rich remote management platform to minimise subscriber churn rates," said Karsten Gewecke, Vice President Sales and Marketing.

On 27 March, at the IPTV World Forum, in London, Mr. Víctor Domínguez, Vice President Sales, will discuss the advantages of on-chip TR-069 remote management in a keynote entitled: "Managed Home Networks for IPTV Deployments". Demonstrations at DS2's booth #284 include on-chip TR-069 remote management and DS2's 400Mbps technology for home networking over any wired medium.
