Cybit, the UK's leading online Telematics Service Provider, has launched SpeedSafe, a new individual road speed management-reporting tool for its Fleetstar-Online's Duty of Care solution. The new module enables managers to enforce work related road safety – a key requirement of the Health & Safety (Offences) Act – and is part of a series of new product releases from Cybit for its flagship Fleetstar-Online software.

SpeedSafe creates driver performance reports that assign points to drivers based on instances of speeding – with severe infractions accruing more points. These totals are then ranked on a monthly basis and can be broken down in any way the manager requires – for example by days of the week – to drill down into driver performance forming a key component of corporate risk management.

Following the Crown Prosecution Service announcement in May of this year of the first charge for Corporate Manslaughter under the new Corporate Manslaughter Act¹ employee risk management and Duty of Care remains high on the corporate agenda – particularly work related road-safety where the risks are highest.

"The Health & Safety Offences Act requires employers to mitigate risk for mobile employees – reducing speeding is one of the primary ways that this can be done," commented John Wisdom, Sales and Marketing Director, Cybit. "The risks of travelling at high-speeds are well documented, but employers need a way to not only see when instances of excessive speed occur, but also a way to implement and manage a process to reduce them. We use Speedsafe inside our business as the most effective way to do this."

Cybit's speed management package, which includes individual roads' limits, is part of a Duty of Care module that automatically reports on telematics driven data such as excessive journeys, distances driven without breaks and other driver metrics. This is combined with fleet management information such as vehicle servicing, driver training and licensing checks. Telematics generated data can also interface with fleet management solutions via a standard API interface to provide seamless fleet management.

"The Duty of Care module is a value added extension to our core fleet tracking product," continued Wisdom. "From a board perspective, it is a comprehensive risk management solution, whilst operationally, we automate many of the processes to provide documented compliance without complexity."

Fleetstar-Online is Cybit's scalable Internet-based telematics solution that features real-time vehicle tracking, exception reporting, replay mode, customised reports, mileage information, SMS messaging and live traffic information. Fleet vehicles are fitted with a small electronic in-vehicle-unit, which is tracked by GPS in real-time and then transmits data to Cybit's online control centre. It provides companies with a cost-effective fleet management solution, which offers users anytime, anywhere access to the system via a standard web browser.
