Mojix® STAR System Achieves New Benchmark for RFID Performance Levels In Apparel Tests Conducted At METRO GROUP

Tests conducted through the METRO GROUP Future Store Initiative benchmark superior read rates and reliability for fast moving goods & item level apparel

Los Angeles, Calif. – November 3, 2010Mojix® Inc today announced the completion of successful tests of the Mojix STAR™ system at METRO GROUP in which breakthrough levels of read rate performance for passive RFID tags were achieved across multiple use cases including RFID tagged fast moving goods and item level tagged apparel. The testing, conducted at the METRO GROUP RFID Innovation Center in Neuss, Germany, evaluated the performance of the Mojix STAR system utilizing the center’s rigorous test procedures developed over the past five years for passive RFID readers. Mojix, a 2010 Silver Future Store Initiative partner, worked jointly with the METRO GROUP to conduct the tests.

The STAR system was tested across multiple use cases, including case and pallet level use cases involving dock door portals as applicable in distribution centers and warehouses, and item level applications in retail stores. In the apparel test case, the Mojix STAR system achieved 99% read percentage of item level RFID tagged apparel in the Gerry Weber retail store setting inside the METRO GROUP RFID Innovation Center. The comprehensive testing replicated the environment of a typical apparel store with tagged items including various types of hanging and stacked garments and accessories. The accuracy achieved in the test with the Mojix STAR demonstrated the potential this highly automated method of inventory management can offer in a retail setting. Additional tests conducted at METRO GROUP examined read rate performance for a variety of RFID tagged goods including RFID challenging goods, as well as various pallet configurations including hundreds of items and mixed goods tagged at case level. In these tests, the Mojix STAR system achieved comparable and slightly better read performance than conventional passive RFID readers tested.

"In the Mojix system tests, we were able to achieve a new benchmark for read rate performance of passive RFID in area coverage applications, which is a key enabler for the truly reliable RFID performance essential in item level inventory management, as well as shipping and receiving operations involving fast moving and RFID challenging goods," said Dr. Christian Plenge, Head of Architecture, Integration & Innovation, METRO SYSTEMS. "New business insights and many operational process improvements can be empowered by this new generation of RFID technology."

"The METRO test analysis of the Mojix system provides the proof of truly reliable read performance with a wide variety of RFID tagged goods," said Roelof Koopmans, Managing Director Europe, Mojix Inc. "METRO GROUP’s leadership and industry stewardship in testing and evaluating new RFID technology is an essential force in development and adoption of passive RFID."

The Mojix STAR™ system is a revolutionary UHF passive RFID system that brings unprecedented levels of precision, scalability and return-on-investment to radio frequency identification applications. The Mojix STAR system uses advanced digital signal processing and a flexible new RFID systems architecture to deliver expanded utility and value to RFID deployments. The ability to read passive RFID tags over long range, determine tag location, and secure and authenticate tag data in one multi-faceted, multiple purpose system changes the economics of RFID. The Mojix system taps the performance features of active RFID with the more attractive economics of low cost passive RFID.
