New learning resource centre opens at leading web offset facility

  • Sponsored by Premier Paper

Pindar, a total solutions provider for publishing and print from ink to internet, today announced the opening of a technologically advanced learning resource centre. The centre opening culminates a year of dedicated planning, encouraging a lifetime learning approach for employees.

Neal Andrew, Manufacturing Director of Pindar commented, "Delivering the educational needs of employees is part of our drive to be recognised as an employer of choice. We have implemented a number of initiatives to provide opportunities for our staff to further their printing careers, which is fundamental to the business. We believe that encouraging a lifetime learning approach will help to fulfil the business needs for Pindar to continue to innovate and deliver service excellence to our customers."

Pindar has been developing a learning agenda over the past 12 months and this has resulted in many positive outcomes. Currently Pindar has 35 employees carrying out online City & Guilds qualifications and 15 employees at various stages of completing National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ). This is in addition to the recent announcement of a new apprenticeship programme, recognising a potential skills-gap in the future for the UK printing industry.

Jacqueline Corrall, Sales Director for web at Premier Paper commented, "We are delighted to support Pindar with their training initiatives and have no doubt the Premier Suite will be most beneficial to all employees taking part in training programmes".

Pindar's partner, the Leeds College of Technology, a recognised centre of vocational excellence, delivers the online City & Guilds qualifications. Jim MacWilliams, Principal of Leeds College of Technology stated, "The centre opening is a positive indicator of the learning culture Pindar is trying to promote and will provide an opportunity to meet with some of the learners and their representatives as they demonstrate first-hand their online courses. This is a time of tremendous change within the UK printing and publishing industries and it is important to have the skilled craft people, who can adapt to these changes"

The centre will be formally opened by the centre sponsor Premier Paper, and the Chairman of the Pindar Group, Andrew Pindar.
