Teleca opens new office in Taiwan

Teleca has decided to establish a subsidiary in Taipei, Taiwan, in January 2005. Teleca already has several important mobile phone customers in Taiwan, and a local sales team has been in place for some time. The managing director of the new company is James Wei, who has joined Teleca from Openwave Systems Inc. in Taiwan, where he was general manager for 3 years. The new subsidiary will strengthen Teleca’s position as one of the world’s leading integrators of mobile phone software.

Taiwan is one of the world’s leading regions for mobile phone development, with more than 20 mobile phone manufacturers developing new phones under their own brand name or for others. Mobile phones developed in Taiwan account for an increasingly large share of the world market.

Teleca has been collaborating with mobile phone manufacturers in Taiwan for several years, partly in the area of integration services and partly in regard to Obigo, Teleca’s world-leading software product for mobile phones. Teleca’s customers in Taiwan include Arima, Asus, BenQ, Dbtel and LiteOn.

The new enterprise is part of Teleca’s strategy of strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading independent integrators of mobile phone software. Initially the new office will comprise a sales team and technical support. Teleca estimates that the new subsidiary will have a staff of about 20 and be profitable during its first year.
