"Lasso” Guards Against Data Theft by Employees

systeam and NetOptics presented World Innovation in IT Security at CeBIT 2005

Langen, Germany, May 11th, 2005 – Sending out confidential company information is cause for instant dismissal of an employee. But how can this type of data theft or misuse be prevented before it occurs? Most network security systems provide protection against external threats, even though internal threats present a much higher risk. With "Lasso”, the manufacturer NetOptics and IT provider systeam offer a security solution and at the same time a world innovation that safeguards the company from internal "thieves”.

According to a recent study by the Gartner Group, 84% of security problems within a company occur when employees send internally sensitive information outside of the company. Thus, employees represent an even greater threat than hackers. Here’s an example: a company employee has access to confidential customer, employee or financial information. He receives his employment termination notice. He continues to work for the company until his last day of employment. It would be easy for him to send confidential information via e-mail to a competitor, but you don’t even need to think along these lines, because most of these types of events are not deliberate or intentional. Just one keystroke is all it takes for a company’s intellectual property, financial information, etc. to leave the network and damage the employer. Now, however, you can put a stop to this and stay on the safe side.

"Lasso”, a world innovation and hardware-based solution, has been developed to monitor the entire network traffic in real-time at Gigabit speed. This entails checking up to 1,000 signatures simultaneously and performing a thorough examination of all e-mails and file attachments. The intelligent hardware checks all of the inbound and outbound data traffic with the help of a set of rules or specific behavioral criteria that are pre-determined by the user. Based upon relevant default settings and preferences, "Lasso” will drop, correct or alert the user when a violation of these rules is recognized. Lasso’s advanced rule logic ensures that critical data stays within the network while the policy enforcement module guarantees that only validated users are granted access to the underlying applications. This ensures that the employee has no opportunity to send out sensitive information.

"Lasso” has a wide variety of applications.
