Advances in Mobile Telecommunications set to revolutionise Broadcasting

  • New Mobile Zone introduced at IBC 2005 – the world’s leading Broadcast Conference and Exhibition – to showcase developments
  • Mobile TV poised to become multi-billion Euro market
(London -16th June 2005) Recent advances in mobile technology have made the prospect of an international mobile TV market a distinct reality. Throughout Western Europe, 3G handsets capable of displaying video information are becoming mainstream items; these devices contain the latest in chip technology, flat panel displays and long life batteries capable of supporting a compelling video experience.

Mobile network operators across Europe, having spent billions of Euros into creating networks capable of delivering video services to end users, are now finding market conditions ripe to begin recouping their investments. With the potential to allow users to receive anything from news and sport to the latest episode of their favourite soap anywhere they want to be, analysts are forecasting that Mobile TV could be the long awaited “killer app” for 3G services.

The new market created by the delivery of broadcast content to mobile devices will form a new value chain of companies set to cash in from an insatiable end-user desire for mobile TV: handset manufacturers; content creators and owners; advertisers and advertising agencies; network operators and billing systems developers; ISVs and technology suppliers who can help content creators adapt their work for mobile formats.

All aspects of this new market will be featured within the new Mobile Zone at IBC2005 which runs from 9-13 September within this year’s IBC exhibition at the RAI, Amsterdam.

The IBC2005 Mobile Zone provides a unique opportunity for applications developers, content providers and technology companies to showcase their capabilities at heart of the world’s leading broadcasting exhibition. In addition to showcasing the latest developments in mobile TV and 3G services, the Mobile Zone will feature the latest innovations in mobile devices and explore their impact on the creation, management and delivery of content. The accompanying IBC Conference will examine some of the issues and opportunities arising from this revolution in mobility in further detail.

The IBC2005 Mobile Zone is being jointly developed and marketed by IBC and IT Europa/BPL.
