Tracking device gets stolen Kubota Mini back fast

When a Kubota demonstration machine was reported stolen, it was recovered 70 minutes later thanks to the GloMoCo GEMini Secure Plus security tracking device fitted to the mini excavator.

The KX71-3 was being demonstrated to Sheffield tarmac specialists and paving contractors, Halfway Surfacing & Civil Engineering Ltd, by local Kubota dealer, BTE Plant Sales of Markfield, Leicester.

After it was stolen at 8.25pm, the device sent an alarm by text message to Kubota, who did not react automatically since they were expecting the dealer to be moving the machine.

Over the next half hour a series of tamper alarms were transmitted as it went south along the M1, stopping eventually at Brampton, South Yorkshire. The geo-fence alarm was re-initiated in case the machine moved again

At 8.00am the next day Kubota confirmed the machine had been stolen, following a call from BTE. At 9.10am the dealer went to the GPS location in Brampton with police who found the machine surrounded by the caravans of itinerant travellers.

Police also recovered a vibrating plate stolen from the same site as the Kubota and a trailer which was used to transport the mini excavator, stolen from another location.

The theft did not put off Mark Hydes, owner of Halfway Surfacing and Civil Engineering, from buying a KX71-3, his first mini excavator.

“It’s a good, strong, reliable little digger that is much better than any of the other models we had demonstrated. It will be a useful addition to the larger excavators we have as it’s the ideal small tool for so many different applications.

“After seeing how successful the tracking device was in recovering the stolen demo machine, I made sure that BTE fitted it to my new Kubota and a new roller I had bought from them.”

The 2.8 tonne KX71-3 is powered by the Kubota V1505-E2-BH engine, providing economical and environmentally clean power. It is so efficient that a full tank gives 10 hours of continuous work.

It has a long arm fitted as standard to provide a 4770mm reach and maximum arm digging force of 16.2 kN (1650 kgf). The digging force of the bucket is 25/2 kN (2570 kgf).
