Kubota extends top selling dealer's territory

Leach Lewis Plant is set to retain its title as one of the world’s largest Kubota mini excavator dealers after having its territory in southern England widely extended.

It has been selling Kubota minis from depots at Waltham Cross, Witney and Romsey since 1987, and has now been appointed to cover Kent, East and West Sussex and East Anglia.

Customers in Kent and Sussex will be served by Leach Lewis Plant’s depot in Sevenoaks, with East Anglia covered from its head office depot in Waltham Cross.

Sevenoaks will stock the complete range of Kubota traditional and zero tail swing minis spanning the weight range from 0.85 to 7.5 tonnes.

Said Leach Lewis’ Managing Director, Peter Sayers: “We have been representing other makes of mini excavators at Sevenoaks only because the Kubota franchise was not available. When the opportunity came up recently to take on the extra territory we grabbed it, much to the delight of our customers who have been asking us for some time to stock Kubota machines.

“It’s a fact that customers now ask for a Kubota whenever they want a mini. It has become the generic name for mini excavators.”

Leach Lewis, which sells predominantly to plant hire companies and does not have a plant hire operation in competition with its customer base, has a strict policy of representing only leading specialist manufacturers.

Like Kubota they are all market leaders in their field, and include Manitou telescopic handlers, Bomag compactors, Thwaites dumpers and Atlas Copco compressors and pneumatic tools.

It currently sells more than 400 Kubota minis a year, and is well on target to boost this figure by an additional 200 units from Sevenoaks.

“All of the models in the Kubota range are selling well, with machines in the zero tail swing U-series experiencing a big increase in popularity due to their amazing versatility,” said Mr Sayers.”

Leach Lewis keeps large Kubota stocks at all its depots so that it can deliver a new machine within 24 hours. It also maintains £1 million worth of spare parts, including large quantities of rubber tracks to fit the Kubota range and most others. It has a strong service commitment to its customers and employs 22 service engineers

“Now that we have been awarded the additional Kubota territory we are actively seeking larger depot premises in the Sevenoaks area,” said Mr Sayers.

The depot is to stage Open Days on September 23 and 24. Visitors will be able to try out the entire range of Kubota minis, plus the other equipment they supply, in a special demonstration area.

The 14-strong depot staff, including depot manager Jason Town, and Tony Barnett, Dave Lewis and Jim Penfold, who handle Kubota sales, will be on hand to show customers around the extensive facilities

Said Mr Sayers: “We have decided to hold the two-day event over a Friday and Saturday. This should allow people who are too busy to leave their offices on a normal working day to come along for an hour or two on the Saturday.”
