GAP Group invests another £7 million in Kubota Minis

Following recent deliveries of 230 Kubota mini excavators, GAP Group, the UK’s largest independent tool and plant hirer, has purchased a further 430 units in a deal worth more than £7m.

It brings the number of Kubota minis purchased by the GAP Group in the last five years to more than 1,600, as part of its virtually all-Kubota mini fleet.

The latest order is for a complete range of machines across Kubota’s top-selling KX series, including the 1.5 tonne KX36-3, the 3 tonne KX61-3, the 5 tonne KX161-3 and the 7.5 tonne KX251. It also includes some 850kg K008-3 zero tail swing models.

Like previous Kubota purchases they have been ordered from Stirlingshire-based Kubota dealer, Young Plant & Equipment Sales Ltd, Kubota’s longest-serving dealer.

Ken Stewart, GAP Group’s Procurement Manager, said: “By continuing to promote and extend our single source supply policies, such as for the Kubota minis, we are able to offer our customers the very best quality equipment, at competitive rates.

“We’ve enjoyed a long-term relationship with Kubota and have found their equipment to be of the highest standard in terms of quality, robustness and efficiency, offering excellent residual values”.

He added that its long-standing association with Young Plant has been helped by the dealer’s superior after-sales service and support. “This includes its ever-developing business in the provision of tracks, buckets and other spare parts for the machines.”

The order is part of an investment of £11.2m in new plant and tools recently announced by the GAP Group, which serves all sectors of the building and construction industry, to support continuing geographical expansion.

The new units are destined for Glasgow-based GAP’s existing national depot network, stretching from Inverness to Portsmouth, and include deliveries to its new depot in Oxford which opened in July.

Units will also be allocated to new branches in Exeter and Plymouth, and in Kentish Town, north London, the company’s first in the capital, to be opened by the end of the year. This will bring the company’s total number of depots to 54.

Said Brian Young, Young Plant’s Managing Director: “Once again, GAP Group have surpassed all our expectations with their latest order for 430 Kubota units, which covers models from micros to midis and includes zero tail swing models for the first time”.

“We are delighted to receive this order and wish GAP Group continued success with their rapidly expanding nationwide business. We look forward to giving them the after-sales support necessary to keep their massive fleet of Kubota minis in prime condition so that they can continue to offer their customers the most productive machines available in the marketplace”.

“GAP Group continues to go from strength to strength and with the combination of their commitment, Kubota’s highly advanced models and our sales support, we look forward to their continued expansion.”

Kubota KX series machines are claimed to be the most powerful mini excavators in their class, setting new standards in quality, performance, operator safety and comfort.

Advanced hydraulic systems give them the ability to outperform larger and more costly models, enhanced by the ergonomically designed control lever layout for smoother operation with reduce driver fatigue.

Kubota offers the widest range of minis available, with 17 base models spanning the weight range from 0.85 - 7.5 tonnes, including the increasingly popular zero tail swing machines.

Richard Harrison, Sales & Marketing Manager, Kubota (UK) Ltd – Construction Equipment Division, commented: “As the acknowledged UK, European and world leader in mini excavators, we provide plant hirers and other customers with all the benefits of Kubota’s legendary quality, performance, reliability, high residual values and unbeatable support”.

“Their versatility makes them the ideal tool for many different applications and users, from civil engineering to landscaping and for plant hire companies to owner operators. They are supported by a nationwide of specialist appointed dealers across the UK and Ireland, together with our own dedicated sales, parts and service teams”.

“We have also introduced another pioneering innovation with our unique ‘ANTI-THEFT’ system, now incorporated on all new Kubota machines from 1.5 to 5.5 tonnes - the first complete security system of its kind to be fitted as standard for mini excavators”.
