Nifty Kubota Mini takes the hard work out of waste handling

A versatile Kubota mini excavator fitted with a waste handling grab has turned waste handling into a one-man job at a South Wales recycling business.

The 2.8 tonne canopied KX71-3 has been put into service by Alpha Waste Recycling at its Bridgend waste transfer station.

Its specially fitted Kinghofer waste handling grab is used to unload incoming skips full of waste material which it places on the floor inside the transfer station.

The Kubota operator then uses the grab to separate out any wood, plastic, cardboard and metal from stone and soil waste and load them into bins that are sent off for recycling.

Alpha Waste Recycling’s Director, Alvyn Evans, said: "As there is restricted space inside the 2,000 sq ft building, we needed a small machine that could get in and out of all the tight corners with ease. The ultra-compact Kubota is perfect for the job."

Separating the waste material was previously carried out by a team of men working by hand and was quite backbreaking. It’s now an easy one-man job with the Kubota which has made the entire operation far more efficient.

The Kubota was chosen by Mr Evans on the recommendation of a business colleague who operates several in his plant hire business.

It was bought from local authorised dealer, Cambrian Plant Sales of Cardiff, which has considerable expertise in rehandling operations and sourced the waste handling grab.

The mini excavator also came with a standard digging bucket and grading bucket should Alpha Waste ever need to carry out civil engineering or landscaping work.

The newly-improved KX-71-3 outperforms many mini excavators in its class, setting new standards in power and reach.

Its bucket cylinder hoses are routed through the arm, and boom cylinders shielded by a thick steel plate, for extra protection and safety. It is available with a quiet, luxury cab or canopy, both of which meet ROPS/FOPS specification.

For ultra-efficient operation the variable displacement pumps provide the optimum hydraulic oil flow and pressure according to the workload. The result is an engine that delivers higher fuel efficiency and less vibration and noise, important factors when working inside enclosed spaces.

"The legendary reputation for quality, performance, reliability, versatility and unbeatable resale values of the world-leading Kubota brand makes them the ideal tool for many different applications and end-users, from civil engineering to landscaping and plant hire companies to owner operators."

“As well as being the only mini excavators with a unique 'ANTI-THEFT' key system fitted as standard”, said Kubota (UK) Ltd Sales & Marketing Manager, Richard Harrison.

As the UK, European and world market leader Kubota offers the widest range of minis available from a single manufacturer, with 17 base models spanning the weight range from 0.85 – 7.5 tonnes, including the increasingly popular zero tail swing machines.
