Thorworld Truckloada shines in the garden

When expansion at Bridgemere Garden World meant a method was needed to lift trays of bedding plants over 4m from a greenhouse to its retail facility, the problem was solved with a tailor-made Truckloada mobile lifting platform from Thorworld Industries.

Bridgemere Garden World of Nantwich, Cheshire, covers a 60-acre site and is one of the premier plant outlets in the North of England.

The building of a new outdoor customer seating area meant that trays of seasonal bedding plants needed to be raised up 4.5m from a pneumatic conveyor belt bringing them out of the greenhouse, to gain access to a nearby retail shop.

After looking at the possibility of using a scissor lift, Bridgemere took the simper and less expensive route of installing the purpose-designed Truckloada.

With an overall width of 4.15m and an overall height of 3.9m, it has a 2,000 Kg capacity to hold two bedding plant trays measuring 1.6 x 2.4m.

It’s a one-man job to push the trays onto the Truckloada’s platform and use the push button controls to operate the hydraulic lifting and lowering mechanism.

The Truckloada is mounted on four heavy duty bearing castors which are locked to keep the platform firmly in place during use.

Bridgemere decided on Thorworld’s Truckloada solution after using a smaller version - with a useable height of 3m, a useable length of 2m and a useable width of 2.4m - to unload incoming plants inside a warehouse. This improved health and safety conditions by reducing fork lift truck movements.

Said Site Services Manager Steven Holmes: “The latest Truckloada represents a highly effective and far less expensive option for lifting up the bedding plant trays than other materials handling equipment such as scissor lifts.”

The Truckloada is available in three standard sizes, depending on the size and number of cages or pallets to be handled, to suit various applications. No pit is required as the lifting gear is mounted on the platform. Special drive-through versions are also available.

Thorworld is firmly established as a market-leading manufacturer and supplier of a wide range of top quality loading and unloading equipment and loading bay accessories, such as  mobile yardramps, dock shelters & seals, dock levellers, modular loading docks, dock plates & boards, dock & vehicle bumpers, Truckloada mobile yardlifts, Dockloada scissor lifts, hand & powered pallet trucks, counterbalanced container lift trucks, a pedestrian operated trailer moving system, and a choice of walk, fixed and wheelchair access ramps, together with a comprehensive selection of safety and protection accessories, to help ensure safe, efficient, profitable working and the protection of vehicles, plant and personnel.
