Thorworld Smoothes Out Unloading At Rubber Compounders

Rubber compounders Eastland Compounding has selected a Thorworld electro hydraulic dock leveller to ease the unloading of incoming raw materials at its new 1,500 sq m warehouse in Clayton, Manchester.

The 6,000 kg capacity leveller, 2,170 mm long by 2,100 mm wide, has a low-pressure hydraulic system for ease of operation and maintenance. Its hydraulic chrome-plated cylinder is 112mm in diameter with a built-in safety stop

The platform and lip, manufactured from high tensile steel, follow the movements of vehicles when loading and unloading pallets of materials from containers to guarantee smooth and safe working. As an additional bespoke feature it is also finished in Mandurax anti-slip paint to provide additional safety, with extra grip for fork lift trucks when operating in wet weather.

For added security retractable slides plates, which act as toe guards, are fitted as standard and lip keepers prevent unauthorised entry when the leveller is not in use.

Thorworld also supplied a waterproofed control panel so that the leveller can be operated externally.

Designed to operate in temperatures from -30 degrees C to 50 degrees C, Thorworld levellers complement its extensive loading bay equipment range. They come in a wide range of sizes and are also available with a 4,000 kg maximum capacity. They are made with a self-supporting sub frame and fitted into pre-prepared pits.

Optional features include a continuously operating draft excluder system, a 500mm long lip (tapered on request), platform insulation and pit edge angles.

Eastland Compounding managing director, Keith O'Brien, says the dock leveller is perfect for use with the different sized vehicles that use the warehouse. It ensures safe and efficient working, so that warehouse personnel and goods cannot fall between vehicles and the loading dock.

Thorworld provides a one-stop, single source for a wide range of high quality loading & unloading equipment and loading bay accessories & safety aids, such as: dock shelters & seals, dock levellers, dock plates & boards, dock & vehicle bumpers, wheel chocks and modular loading docks, together with the provision of mobile yardramps through their specialist RentARamp operation, as well as the Truckloada mobile yardlift, the Dockloada scissor lift platform, and a new low cost Economy mobile ramp.

Having celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2006, the company is firmly established as a leading supplier to the loading bay and materials handling sectors, with numerous prestigious customers throughout the UK and mainland Europe in distribution, logistics, transport, retailing, food, drink, manufacturing, recycling and the service industries.
