Choosing The Right Supplier For Loading Bay Efficiency

Phil Dinning, Managing Director of Easilift Loading Systems Ltd, one of the UK's foremost loading bay equipment suppliers, says the solution to achieving and  maintaining efficient loading bays lies in choosing a supplier who can look after all of  your needs throughout the entire life of the equipment.

Whatever a company's business, the loading bay is an extremely critical area of  operation. No-one wants the headache (and cost) of equipment failing, with the associated problems this causes to the production/distribution cycle if one or more loading bays are put out of action.

This is why key factors such as design, quality, efficiency, safety, reliability and total service back-up are so central to our operating philosophy.

We provide everything necessary for the safe, efficient and profitable operation of loading bays: from dock levellers, dock shelters, dock seals, dock pods, lifting platforms, industrial and high speed doors, to a complete range of accessories and safety aids.

With our comprehensive bespoke service we act as a total solutions provider, whatever the individual need. Our highly qualified team offers thoroughly professional advice relating to the most suitable loading bay design, whether for a new build contract or refurbishment. Customer requirements and any building constraints are paramount in developing tailored specifications for each individual project.

Having celebrated our 30th anniversary in 2006, our extensive facilities include an in-house design service, utilising  the latest CAD software. This is complemented by an efficient production, installation and after-sales service which embraces the provision of preventive maintenance programmes to help maintain both long-term performance and customer peace of mind.

As part of the Dutch-based Loading Systems International group of companies, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of loading bay equipment, we are able to meet the requirements of the largest contract as well as those for smaller projects.

We co-ordinate the entire contract, from the initial design work and manufacture through to installation and after-sales, always reacting quickly to the wishes of our customers covering advice, quotations, special product design, delivery times, project completion and reaction times.

Achieving customer satisfaction is our top priority and we strive towards long-standing working relations. Perhaps the best proof of this is the fact that more than 60 per cent of new orders come from our existing customers.

Our extensive customer list represents a roll call of some of the biggest names in UK manufacturing, retailing, logistics and distribution. These are companies who choose to specify loading bay equipment based on innovation, quality, performance, reliability and overall service back-up rather than being solely price driven.

When Tesco needed a method of loading and unloading its new fleet of high capacity double deck trailers, used to transfer goods between distribution centres, we came up with the perfect solution for them.

Working with a major UK lift supplier, we designed a modular dock pod loading system incorporating a scissor lift to handle the fixed deck trailers.

The free-standing pods are installed flush to the outside of the distribution centres, minimising disruption and avoiding the loss of internal floor area. The fabricated side and roof frames are clad with insulated wall panels to create a sealed working environment, with our electrically-operated sectional overhead Powerdoors fitted to the front and rear of each pod.

Tesco recently chose a similar system for its flagship environmental store in Wick, Scotland. This comprises of two modular loading pods, one containing a 12 cage lifting platform for use with fixed bed, high capacity double-deck trailers, operated by Tesco to save on delivery road miles, with the other pod containing a scissor lift, designed to integrate with both double deck and standard height trailers.

The pod system incorporates insulated sectional doors and was designed, built and installed to meet Tesco's specific requirements for what has been described as 'Britain's greenest supermarket.’ We were delighted to have been chosen as a major partner in their first 'green' store, and worked closely with them on this special project to ensure that we met their stringent environmental needs.

We also developed a bespoke system for Boots when they wanted to introduce double deck trailers.

But we don't just supply major contracts. Our equipment was chosen for a distribution centre opened by Housing Units Ltd, a Manchester-based home furnishing retailer.

We equipped three loading bays with fully insulated sectional overhead doors, collapsible frame dock shelters, dock levellers; dock lights and LED traffic lights.

Easilift was also one of the first loading bay equipment suppliers to achieve the prestigious SafeContractor Health and Safety award. SafeContractor is an accreditation scheme that assesses the heath and safety competency of contractors in a variety of fields.

To achieve accreditation the company's health and safety standards are independently audited annually to ensure we consistently achieve the high standards required by SafeContractor, including compliance with any new legislation.

For significant contracts, normally those involving 25 or more loading bays, we allocate a Major Project Account Manager to act as a single main point of contact.  National customers can then deal with the same person on every large job, irrespective of where these are located in the UK.

Our mission is to maintain and further develop the company's clear focus as one of the country's leading loading bay equipment companies. This will be achieved by the constant development of cost-effective, high quality solutions, combined with similarly high standards of sales and service support.

To sum up, in order to deliver improved efficiencies and increased cost savings in the loading bay, talk to the established experts in the industry to ensure they can provide a truly bespoke and comprehensive service, together with the experience, capability and resources to look after all your needs throughout the entire life of the equipment they supply - before, during and after installation.
