Phil Dinning, Managing Director of leading loading bay equipment supplier, Easilift Loading Systems Ltd, has been appointed President of the Association of Loading and Elevating Equipment Manufacturers (ALEM) for the next two years.
He succeeds Ross Cargill, Manufacturing Director of Ross & Bonnyman, which makes vehicle tail lifts and shutter doors, who now becomes Vice President.
Mr Dinning, a well-known industry figure, has served on ALEM's executive board for a number of years.
ALEM represents companies involved in providing equipment and services for the safe handling of loads, whether products, vehicles, equipment or personnel. This includes manufacturers and suppliers of scissor lift tables, dock levellers, associated dock loading equipment, ramps and lifts for the disabled, tail lifts and other vehicle-mounted lifting equipment.
A member of the British Materials Handling Federation (BMHF), ALEM represents members' views in negotiations with Government and other authorities, including the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the British Standards Institution (BSI), the European Commission and other trade associations.
One of its chief aims is to make the industry and the end user aware of the standards and regulations that need to be complied with. This is to ensure that all products are supplied and operated to the highest safety levels and meet current UK and European legislation.
Said Mr Dinning, "ALEM provides member companies with an excellent forum in which to discuss the common problems we all face in the European marketplace."
"It also allows us to input our views into the formation of the standards which affect our industry, through our members who sit on various committees and who provide us with information of possible future amendments to current regulations and legislation."
Easilift Loading Systems provides everything needed for the safe, efficient and profitable operation of loading bays. This includes dock levellers, dock shelters, dock seals, dock pods, doors, high speed doors, vehicle restraints and lifting platforms.
It also offers a complete range of accessories and safety aids, from dock plates, dock bumpers and wheel guides, to traffic lights and integrated control systems. Complemented by a full installation and after-sales service, including preventive maintenance programmes designed to help avoid costly loading bay down-time.
Easilift is part of Loading Systems International, one of the foremost manufacturers of loading bay equipment, which has sales companies across Europe.
Mr Dinning said that ALEM was a great help to member companies in today's challenging business environment and was in a strong position to provide industry input and support for the UK position within Europe.
"I would urge those manufacturers and suppliers who are not yet members to consider joining," he said. "As well as obtaining valuable benefits, their membership will help to strengthen the position of the entire UK industry."
