NetworkedPlanet Topic Maps technology sees increased take-up in advanced Norwegian markets

• Focus on enhanced information management sees companies in key market sectors now use TMCore 07 solution

NetworkedPlanet, the leading vendor of information management tools and products, has announced that a wide range of companies in key Norwegian sectors, including education, international shipping, government and unions, are now using its TMCore 07 Topic Maps technology. Leading Norwegian organisations, including The Doctors Union, the Norwegian Post Office, Government.no and Wilhelmsen, an independent global provider of outbound vehicle logistics services, can now provide users with relevant data and documents that enable them to make better business decisions and ensure knowledge sharing across the enterprise. Throughout 2007 the company has continued to expand its Nordic partner and reseller network and now works with some of the countries’ major IT consultancies including: Avenir, Bouvet, Gazette, Making Waves, Steria and WMData.

Based on the ISO open standard Topic Maps, TMCore enables organisations to create a highly accessible, high speed information network ensuring that all resources are widely available across the enterprise - and to the public if desired - and organised in an intuitive way. Topics hold information about themselves, links to related documents and links to other similar topics, creating a map of knowledge. This map can be browsed or searched by end-users to find information resources via key concepts. The result is a detailed index of the organisation’s information resources across a number of systems via a single unified information portal.

In the case of the Norweigan Government, NetworkedPlanet’s TMCore topic maps technology enabled it to link together over 30,000 'documents’ and more than 300,000 web pages from 17 ministries, providing an intelligent navigation tool for the entire site. With Norway Post, the company needed a unifying platform that could organise the vast quantity of varied data that is created and used on a daily basis. It looked at a number of different systems that would enhance the functionality of its SharePoint application, and NetworkedPlanet’s TMCore offered the ideal solution. TMCore integrates seamlessly into SharePoint to attach 'topics' (such as people, subject, task, address) to key documents so that they can be easily organised and found via the information portal. This alignment can be seen as the ability to connect concepts with content.
