The countdown has started: counting the days till the Mentos SPLASHDIVING World Championship 2008 powered by Mitsubishi Motors

Bayreuth. Divers from eight countries are excitedly looking forward to the third SplashdivingTM World Championship to be held at the Stadium Baths in Nuremberg: who will walk away with the coveted title in the single, synchronous and team ratings this time?

Background info on the sport of SPLASHDIVINGTM
SPLASHDIVINGTM is the new recreational sport akin to FREESTYLE BOMBING which has become established in Germany. By contrast to springboard diving and high diving, its aim is to displace as much water as possible as noisily as possible on submersion. To this end, the first SplashdivingTM world championships were held in 2006. Since that time a world championship competition has been held for this particular sport each year.  

To date, 13 official freestyle dives have been devised and participants in the contests perform these dives from a 10 metre springboard. A list of all the freestyle dives can be found at www.splashdiving.com.

In addition to the Olympic Games, the summer of 2008 will feature a further sporting high spot: the Mentos® SPLASHDIVINGTM World Championship 2008 powered by Mitsubishi Motors which will take place from 15th-17th August in the Nuremberg Stadium baths. In addition to Germany, Austria, Australia and the Philippines, this year Denmark, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic will also be taking part. They will be making their first attempt to hold their own against the established SplashdivingTM countries.

Alongside exciting competitions, the World Championship offers a number of other highlights, including a high-diving spectacle featuring a 30 metre crane, an attempt at the world record, a "best trick" contest and even live music in the shape of the pop group Marquess, who had a Europe-wide smash hit last year with "Vayamos Compañeros" and who will be appearing live at the baths on Sunday, 17th August at 12.30 hrs. In the Finale they will be performing their latest chart-topper "La vida es limonada" from the Top 10 Album ¡YA!, which is currently riding high in the German singles charts.

This makes the Mentos® SPLASHDIVINGTM World Championship 2008 powered by Mitsubishi Motors not only a sporting competition but also a summer lifestyle event.

On Friday, 15th August 2008 all the athletes and participants from the various countries will be arriving from 13.00 hrs onwards at the Nuremberg Stadium Baths (address: Hans-Kalb-Strasse 42, 90471 Nuremberg / Germany). A free training session will take place at the diving platform until 15:30 hrs. During this time the camera teams, radio reporters and photographers will have the chance to produce individual pictures, photographs and soundbites/original soundtracks. From 16:00 hrs to 19:00 hrs the competitions will take place, along with the qualifying rounds.

On Saturday, 16th August 2008, the athletes and the press will be able to access the baths from 09:30 hrs onwards in order to "check in". From 13:00 hrs to 15:15 hrs the junior competitions and the finale in synchronous diving will be taking place. In addition, the high-diving show from a crane (approx. 30 metres high) will be staged. After 16:00 hrs the preliminary round for the senior singles will commence.  

Press accreditation commences on the final day, Sunday 17th August 2008 from 08:00 hrs onwards. The finale starts at 11:00 hrs. At 12:30 hrs Marquess will be appearing in a live show. The subsequent award ceremony will take place at 13:30 hrs.

The event will be compered by the professional and capable SplashdivingTM moderator Michael Fuchs who will be on-site to provide an introduction to the sport for the spectators.

For the first time this year Fanta has become a SPLASHDIVINGTM Partner, adding a sparkle to the Mentos® SPLASHDIVINGTM World Championship in the shape of a VIP lounge. Fanta is backing the SPLASHDIVINGTM teams. Whilst the splashdiving world elite create bubbles when they hit the water, Fanta provides bubbles of refreshment in the VIP lounge. It goes without saying that the Fanta Crew, Todd, the cool one, Kimmy, the rock singer and the dog Kobi will be coming along - an ever-present feature wherever people are "young at heart".

Speedo, the leading manufacturer worldwide of functional and innovative swimwear, beachwear and equipment will this year be providing the kit required by the German SplashdivingTM national team. Speedo is supplying the necessary bathing trunks, shorts and apparel required by the professionals. Due to the fact that the clothing is exposed to extreme stresses, quality processing is essential to ensure flawless  performance of the SPLASHDIVINGTM jumps.

This year the well-known ice cream manufacturer Nestlé Schöller will be partnering SPLASHDIVINGTM for the first time.  Delicious Nestlé Schöller products such as the fresh and fruity Pirulo Floshy with its water-spray stick or crispy Pops, the first ice cream to snack on.

Another stalwart partner for SplashdivingTM is YUR.tv. In the future, Splashdiving fans will be able to view clips on the broadcaster's SplashdivingTM Channel right round the clock. Fans will be able to tune in to watch the professionals acting out their latest tricks and jumps. YUR.tv will also be on site for the Mentos® SplashdivingTM World Championship 2008 powered by Mitsubishi Motors to produce new clips.
