Ten Products Pass UPA Powerline Interop 2008 Certification

October 15, 2008, LondonThe Universal Powerline Association (UPA), a leading industry consortium providing a forum for the development of interoperable and open specifications for Powerline communications, today announces that ten (10) Access and In-Building Powerline Products from six different companies have qualified for UPA certification under the "UPA Powerline Interop 2008 Certification Program".

The certification program supports commercial deployment of BPL Access and In-Building Powerline products using UPA 200Mbps powerline communication technology. The announcement follows the first global interoperability and certification program event held this summer.

The rigorous test and compliance program provides utilities, operators, and system integrators with a choice of certified, interoperable products, which are compatible with existing UPA products.

"The test program considered a series of parameters that Powerline products must measure up to in order to qualify for certification. These include performance, coverage, notching capabilities, and interoperability between products, remote management capabilities as well as coexistence between home networking and BPL/access networks for Utility grid applications amongst others. We also included QoS for Video-on-Demand (VoD) and triple play distribution for In-Building scenarios such as hotels," said Daniel Drolet, Chairman of the UPA.

The UPA Members' products certified under the UPA Powerline Interop 2008 Certification program, listed in alphabetical order, are:

  • Corinex Communications Noise Resistant MV GatewayCorinex Communications MV/LV COAX Head End
  • Freedom Digital Networks PG 102 Data CPE Euro Plug
  • Freedom Digital Networks HE 1001 MV/LV Head End Modem
  • LS Cable Power line Ethernet Adapter
  • LS Cable Power line Head End
