Cybit extends portfolio of tracking and asset management solutions with acquisition of mapAmobile mobile location service

  • Leading telematics service provider acquires mapAmobile corporate and consumer business from MI International
  • Addition of mapAmobile confirms Cybit as UK’s leading provider of online, telematics-enabled location services

Cybit, the UK’s leading online telematics service provider, has extended its portfolio of tracking and asset management solutions with the acquisition of the innovative mapAmobile mobile location service from MI International. Cybit will add mapAmobile’s location services – offered in two variants, a Corporate Edition launched earlier this year, and a Consumer solution offering discreet monitoring of children and vulnerable people - to its existing range of fleet and asset management solutions, which already includes Fleetstar-Online - the company’s modular Internet-based fleet management solution - and Drive-IT software for car pool management.

mapAmobile works on O2, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile networks and the Corporate Edition has already been successfully deployed in some 40 UK organisations - including a number of public sector organisations. The Consumer offering can be purchased either online, or through retailers such as The Carphone Warehouse.

The addition of mapAmobile to the Cybit portfolio confirms the company as the only vendor to offer an end-to-end range of telematics-enabled tracking and asset management solutions. Cybit now provides over 500 UK and European
organisations with tracking, fleet and asset management and vehicle sharing solutions.

“Recent developments such as the launch of our new modular Fleetstar-Online solution and our major three-year agreement with Norwich Union to offer the UK’s only telematics-enabled fleet insurance product, show that there’s a growing requirement for fleet and asset management services that go far beyond first generation telematics offerings,” commented Cybit’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Horsman. “With the acquisition of mapAmobile we’re again directly addressing that need, and our new mobile location service will bring tracking and asset management solutions to an entirely new group of customers who will now be able to use standard mobile phone technology to keep track of their mobile employees and assets without having to make a significant investment in technology.

“We’re finding that more and more UK businesses are seeing location services such as mapAmobile as an opportunity to develop competitive advantage – for example by tracking the movement of phones over a specified time period to provide information to help in maximising the efficiency of an organisation’s mobile workforce,” he continued. “mapAmobile will also provide an excellent tracking solution for the growing number of businesses that use sub-contractors or temporary staff to support their day-to-day operations. Using mapAmobile Corporate Edition they can now track indirect employees via their mobile phones, ensuring that the organisation’s entire mobile workforce are now effectively tracked. This will prove an increasingly important requirement for meeting legislative and Duty of Care obligations.”

With mapAmobile Corporate Edition, organisations can locate their mobile workforce at any time of the working day – without interrupting their activities. mapAmobile uses the mobile phone network to locate a mobile phone or GSM modem anywhere in the UK in seconds. As the service requires no extra hardware and is particularly easy to deploy, it helps organisations to manage their mobile workforce at a fraction of the cost of standard GPS tracking systems.

mapAmobile identifies the location of a mobile phone or GSM modem, and delivers this information either via a map on www.mapamobile.com/corporate, via WAP communication or via a text message. mapAmobile Corporate Edition allows organisations to locate a single mobile phone, groups of phones or GSM modems, and view their locations on a map at either local or national levels. The solution also allows organisations to find the nearest phone to a specific postcode, set-up and manage departmental and regional structures, set individual access and administrative rights and book automatic periodic locating. In addition mapAmobile Corporate Edition can send alerts via SMS or e-mail when phones move into or away from specified postcodes. mapAmobile technology gives an organisation the ability to track its mobile assets through the use of GSM modems, without the need to implement a GPS solution.

Cybit has quickly established itself as the market leader for Internet-based telematics-enabled fleet management solutions. The latest release of Fleetstar-Online introduces a unique modular approach to fleet management, providing customers with access to industry leading technology that was previously available only to major enterprises. With its next generation telematics platform, Cybit combines key architecture strengths - such as an OpenAPI and decoupled technology and application layers - to enable organisations to easily integrate Cybit telematics technology with their own applications and bring them to market quickly.
