Jobs4Medical.co.uk launches new 'Social Work' section as Government announces £73 million transformation of industry

  • Will categorise different social work departments, including adolescents, elderly and mentally disabled, into easy-to-navigate pages
  • Follows a significant increase in social work job postings and enquiries in 2008
  • Government to spend millions over the next three years on improving 'vital' job role
Hampshire, UK – 29 January 2009 – Jobs4Medical.co.uk, a leading specialist online recruitment service for the medical profession, has launched a new social work section on its website. Following a growth in social work job postings and enquiries on its site during 2008, Jobs4Medical designed a specialised section that would categorise vacancies by department – for example adolescent social work – and geography. The section will provide some of the UK's 76,000 qualified social workers with a daily updated resource to help them to find the right job in the right area.

A recent Channel 4 report uncovered worrying shortfalls in social work departments around the UK, with some departments coping with only half the amount of staff they should have. The Government has now announced that it will spend £73 million over the next three years on improving the UK's social work system. Children's Secretary, Ed Balls, said: "We've got to do more to boost the standing of social workers in our country because protecting and supporting vulnerable children is a vital job."

Jobs4Medical works with a number of the UK's largest social work companies – including The Synergy Group and Hays Social Care.

Vicky Scott, Operations Manager at Jobs4Medical.co.uk commented: "There is a huge social work recruitment market out there and so many different opportunities, such as working with the elderly or young children. However the industry has had a very bad press of late, following a number of high profile cases, and it really damaged the reputation of social workers.

"So many organisations are now realising the importance of having a qualified team of social workers and the significant increase in activity on our site has been a really positive sign for the industry. To ensure we keep attracting highly professional and qualified social workers we have developed a specialised section that makes it really straight forward – with as few page clicks as possible. The recent news that the Government is set to transform the industry shows just how vital the role of a competent and qualified social worker has become."
