Thorworld takes to the water in rowing sponsorship

Loading and unloading equipment specialist, Thorworld Industries Ltd, has bridged the gap from the loading bay to the river bank.

The Chesterfield-based company is sponsoring Manchester University Boat Club’s (MUBC) Men’s 2nd V111 rowing team for the 2005 season.

Financial assistance provided by Thorworld will go towards extra professional coaching in the run up to the season’s summer regattas, the club’s annual spring training camp in France and maintenance of its boats and oars.

Manchester University Boat Club is the one of the largest and most successful sports clubs at the University and so far this season it has notched up victories at local head races such as York, Trafford and the Autumn Dee event, and the future outlook looks extremely promising.

All the MUBC teams did very well at the recent North of England head of the river race, with the Men’s 2nd VIII winning the Senior 4 Division as one of the top ten fastest boats on the day. They now rank as the 10th best University rowing team in the UK.

The Men’s 2nd V111 will be competing for medals in several more important events later this year. The three most notable are the Head of the River Race on the Thames, the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) championships at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham, and Henley Royal Regatta.

The ultimate goal is for the team to qualify for and compete in the Temple Challenge Cup at Henley in June. Last year over 60 competitive crews entered for the 32 places, showing that qualifying is a feat in itself.

Said Thorworld Managing Director, John Meale: “We are pleased to be able to help the University club’s team and its keen young rowers in this way. It may be unusual for a loading equipment company to be involved in this type of sponsorship, but we believe in being part of the community and assisting universities and enthusiastic and committed young people wherever we can.”

Thorworld specialises in the supply of a wide range of loading and unloading equipment and loading bay accessories, such as dock shelters & seals, dock levellers, dock plates & boards, dock & vehicle bumpers, modular loading docks, RentARamp mobile yardramps, Truckloada mobile yardlifts, scissor lifts, hand & powered pallet trucks, counterbalanced container lift trucks, a pedestrian operated trailer mowing system, and a choice of walk, fixed and wheelchair access ramps, together with a comprehensive selection of safety and protection accessories, to help ensure safe, efficient, profitable working and the protection of vehicles, plant and personnel.
