Easy Loading with Easilift at £6.3m Port of Tyne warehouse

An 18 bay warehouse opened at the Port of Tyne features loading bay equipment supplied exclusively by Easilift Loading Systems Ltd.

The building, costing £6.3m, has been designed to accommodate a VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) racking system, creating a total of 5,000 large and 18,000 standard pallet locations.

As part of its £110,000 contract Easilift Loading Systems equipped each of the loading bays with an electrically operated insulated sectional overhead Powerdoor measuring 2750mm wide x 3300mm high, together with a Type 233 Poweramp dock leveller.

The Poweramp 233 is a telescopic lip type hydraulic dock leveller that bridges the difference in height and distance between the dock and vehicle floor. It is raised and lowered automatically by the press of a button and immediately brought to the correct height, after which a 500mm long telescopic lip is extended until it meets the floor of the vehicle. It has a single axle load capacity of 6000kg.

Poweramp dock levellers are available in a large range of sizes and capacities, with the option of hydraulic swing lip or extending lip operation.

Each bay also has an Easilift Type 403 dock shelter, a sturdy, hard wearing general-purpose dock shelter designed to seal off the widest variety of vehicles during loading and unloading, an LED type traffic light and a loading dock light.

Easilift also supplied and installed a combined control panel in each bay to ensure safe operation of the dock leveller and door, and to control the sequence of the traffic light system.

Accessories provided included trailer wheel guides to assist drivers with the positioning of their vehicles centrally to the loading bays.

At 18.6m high, the new warehouse facility at Tyne Dock, South Shields, is managed by the Port’s own engineering department and provides substantial palletised warehousing for high value products. It brings the total warehousing capacity available within Tyne Dock to 5.7 hectares.
