Easilift loading bay equipment chosen for £30 million Nisa-Today's national distribution centre

Easilift Loading Systems has provided the latest in loading bay equipment for a new £30 million state-of-the-art ambient warehouse and national distribution centre in Scunthorpe.

It is operated by Re-Vision Logistics and Bibby Distribution for independent retail and wholesale buying and distribution company, Nisa-Today’s.

Easilift supplied and installed all the equipment for the 60 loading bays, including dock levellers, shelters, overhead doors, access doors and a wide range of accessories, in a contract worth in excess of £375,000.

The roof of the 628,500 sq ft warehouse covers an area equivalent to 17 football pitches. It delivers ambient products to more than 5,000 independent retailers across the UK, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. It was officially opened on March 17 by Trade and Industry Secretary Alan Johnson.

Easilift equipped 56 of the 60 bays with its swing lip type 232 Poweramp dock leveller, measuring 2m wide x 2.5m long and with a 6,000kg single axle load capacity.  The four remaining bays have type 233 dock levellers with identical specifications but with a telescopic type lip.

The type 403 dock shelter in 48 of the bays measures 3.4 x 3.4m. Those in the other 12 bays are larger, at 3.4m x 4.5m, so as to accommodate both high and double-deck type trailers. It is a sturdy, hard-wearing, general-purpose shelter that provides optimal sealing of the vehicle during loading and unloading.

Each bay has an electrically operated insulated sectional overhead door incorporating a double glazed vision panel. The doors are manufactured from insulated panels incorporating a finger trap safe panel joint and an external HPS Plastisol finish.

Easilift also provided four level access insulated sectional overhead doors with fast-acting, high speed doors fixed directly behind them. This enables fork lift trucks to drive in and out of the building by means of a floor mounted induction loop system that automatically opens the high speed doors, which have a maximum opening and closing speed of 2.5m per second.

Each bay has an external LED traffic light, an internal dock light and a multi-functional control panel that ensures safe operation of the dock leveller and door and carries out the automatic sequencing of the traffic light system.

They also have a pair of hardwearing nylon bumpers mounted 200mm above the dock, with a cut out section in the top corner, to ease the positioning of the final row of pallets inside the trailers.

Externally, each bay is equipped with a pair of trailer wheel guides and nylon trailer plates bolted to the concrete yard to protect the surface from impact damage caused by vehicles’ trailer legs. Easilift also fitted a protective cover to the tail lift slot to prevent dirt and debris from collecting inside it.

Easilift Loading Systems supplies everything necessary for the safe, efficient and profitable operation of loading bays, including dock levellers, dock shelters, dock seals, dock pods, doors, high speed doors, vehicle restraints and lifting platforms, together with a complete range of accessories and safety aids such as dock plates & bumpers, wheel guides, traffic light and integrated control systems.
