Richard Hunt joins OmPrompt as Chief Executive

  • Ex-CEO of Exel Europe and Aviance to steer OmPrompt through second major phase of development

OmPrompt, a new provider of hosted services which enable supply chain partners and trading communities to connect, communicate and collaborate electronically and which is backed by Benchmark Capital and 3i has appointed Richard Hunt CBE as chief executive officer. He has joined the company from Aviance UK and has been brought in to drive the next stage in the company’s development following its recent additional funding. Richard will lead the wider implementation of the company’s messaging and integration services into sectors such as logistics, manufacturing and retailing. OmPrompt enables companies and their supply chain networks to extend the utilisation of electronic communication whatever the existing formats and their own systems capability, thus removing a barrier to better collaborative processes.

Richard Hunt CBE has CEO experience in both large and small businesses as well as with a new VC backed start up in 2000. He has many years’ experience as a chief executive, as well as varied experience within the logistics sector at director level. In 1995, he joined Exel Logistics, then part of NFC plc and the UK’s largest International logistics service provider. He became CEO of Exel Europe’s sector businesses. Prior to joining OmPrompt, he was CEO of Aviance which is the aviation division of Go-Ahead plc and a leading aviation logistics services company providing ground handling services at 17 UK airports. This multi sector experience has given Richard Hunt first class knowledge about the logistics industry and supply-chain management.

“The future opportunities for OmPrompt are both exciting and interesting”, said Richard Hunt, Chief Executive Officer. “The global and competitive nature of current supply-chain management means that companies must focus on finding ways to improve processes and reduce total logistics costs. Innovative and economic technology that makes better use of what already exists is one way. Right now with current customers our hosted services are helping to reduce operating costs and tackle the limitations around integration of electronic data within networks. We’re talking about enabling companies, whatever their size or IT capability, to communicate, collaborate and trade electronically in ways they perhaps didn’t envisage or couldn’t afford before. And get started quickly.”

Previously Richard has served as a member of the Highways Agency Advisory Board and is a Colonel in the Engineer and Logistics Staff Corps - an industry group of advisors to the Army. He has over the years been a speaker about logistics on Masters programmes at Warwick, Cambridge and City universities and still presents at international conferences and seminars on logistics and supply-chain management. He is currently President-elect of the International Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and takes office in 2007.

Richard Hunt was appointed CBE in 2004 in recognition for his work in logistics and transport.
