SurfKitchen Fuels Telstra's Next G™ High-Speed Mobile Broadband User Experience

  • On-Device Portal Market Leader and Telstra lead the mobile telephony revolution

Reading, UK November 22 2006 - Telstra, Australia's leading telecommunications carrier, has selected SurfKitchen to power the user experience behind its recent launch of its Next G™ network, the world's geographically largest national High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSPDA) network. Telstra is using SurfKitchen's technology to deliver downloads as part of its new 'My Place' mobile data portal, which offers '1-touch, 1-click' access to a range of rich mobile data services.

The continuing evolution of SurfKitchen's close working relationship with Telstra is a direct result of the award-winning successes of BigPond Menu, launched earlier this year, and Telstra Active Menu, launched in 2005. SurfKitchen’s robust SurfKit Download Manager™ was chosen to support one of the nine key services and applications that make up 'My Place'. This will enable Telstra to offer a better user experience in purchasing content, encouraging greater uptake and increased Average Revenue Per User (ARPU).

Designed with ease of use in mind, SurfKitchen is available on the widest range of mobile devices on the market, with the ability to be pre-installed on handsets or provided to end users via Bluetooth, Infrared (IrDA), WAP or Over the Air (OTA). The SurfKit Download Manager™ will be made available, pre-installed, on most Telstra Next G™ devices including Samsung A501 and A701, ZTE F850, F851 and F150, Motorola RAZR maxx V6 and other devices in future.

Telstra's Group Manager of Wireless Consumer Data Services, Freddie Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen explained: "This is an integral part of Telstra's plan to bring broadband to the masses. The Next G™ network's unprecedented scale and scope demonstrates how committed Telstra is to creating a user experience that is second to none. Using SurfKitchen to deliver a fast, intuitive download experience is helping to deliver the promise of 'My Place'."

"This latest venture is a testament to our market leadership and ability to enable service providers to roll out successful and compelling mobile data services. We are delighted to be involved in such a progressive service offering. This is a strategic and technological milestone for us, and another step in the evolutionary path to support Telstra's future technology roadmap," said Michel Quazza, CEO of SurfKitchen.
