Daeja Image Systems today announced the launch of its Universal Viewing Module for ViewONE Pro, which extends the viewing and annotation support of its thin-client web-based image viewer to over 300 formats (including MS Office) with no client installation or privileges required.
Complying with Freedom of Information, Sarbanes-Oxley, Basel II and other legislation has led companies to significantly extend the range, and age, of records they store permanently in their web-based ECM and RM repositories, presenting a problem when it comes to enabling viewing and mark-up of those documents, especially where the applications that created them are no longer available, or where, for security, user access needs to be limited to viewing and annotating, but not editing the original.
Installing and maintaining plug-ins or standalone viewers across a large user base to support these document types can require substantial administration time and expensive licensing (compounded if each user's need is only periodic), but extendible applet ViewONE Pro and its Universal Viewing Module automatically roll out to all web-based users with no installation needed, whilst Daeja's low-cost server licensing policy means no additional user license fees.
The Universal Viewing Module adds MS Office, AutoCAD, EPS and a wide range of other word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, engineering and graphics formats to ViewONE Pro's existing in-built and modular support for PDF, TIF, JPEG, BMP and DjVu. But adding viewing support isn't the only benefit of the Universal Viewing Module:
"Adding support for key formats such as Word, Excel and CAD definitely extends ViewONE Pro's reach into a wider ECM and RM market," says Jeremy Jones, Daeja's marketing director. "But a key differentiator of our offering is that our innovative layer approach to document and image annotation means that each of the 300+ file formats can be marked-up with the same text, highlight, line, arrow and redaction tools that our users are familiar with, delivering true Universal Annotation too."
Seamlessly integrating ViewONE Pro's Universal Viewing and Annotation into any web-based Enterprise Content Management and Records Management is straightforward thanks to ViewONE Pro's HTML and Javascript integration controls. For users, simply clicking to view one of the supported documents within their web system will trigger the automatic caching of the applet and the Module to a ViewONE Pro folder, created and controlled by the viewer's innovative Advanced Cache Manager.
From today, product downloads of ViewONE Pro from Daeja's website will contain the Universal Viewing capability, which is easily enabled for all users through the viewer's license file. A 30-day free trial of ViewONE Pro with its Universal Viewing Module is available to download at www.daeja.com, where a live demo of the module in action can also be seen.
