New TMCore Module adds topic map power to the EPiServer Web content management platform

  • NetworkedPlanet integrates topic map technology with EPiServer to power a concept centric content management platform
  • Enables editors, managers and publishers of content to locate, classify and structure access to key information and documents
  • Norwegian Education Department uses solution to organise public access to documents related to national curriculum concepts

NetworkedPlanet, a leading vendor of enterprise information management products, has released a new topic maps module for EPiServer, a leading content management and Web publishing platform. The module utilises NetworkedPlanet's TMCore topic maps technology and enables EPiServer editors to structure access to information by topic-based classification, allowing Website users to rapidly locate documents according to key concepts. The enhanced platform will be of particular interest to editors, managers and publishers of high quality, information rich, online content - for both intranet and internet projects.

Website navigation is powered by TMCore, NetworkedPlanet's enterprise knowledge and information management solution, and has been integrated directly into the EPiServer editorial tooling system to provide powerful classification capabilities. When authors create a content item, a "topic" is automatically assigned to it. Editors from within the EPiServer editorial interface then instruct the TMCore engine to create associations between different topics. Links between content items and topics are presented on an EPiServer-powered Website using navigation controls provided by NetworkedPlanet.

"The TMCore EPiServer module provides a state-of-the art navigational solution for EPiServer," commented Mikael Runhem, Founder and Business Developer of EPiServer. "We see Topic Maps, based on the ISO standard, as an essential part of our content management system. EPiServer is used to create content for all types of online resources, whether it's for internal or external use, which often involve utilising thousands of documents. It is very important that, as the amount of Web content continues to grow, Web publishers have access to an intelligent, easy-to-use navigation tool to manage it."

"Topic Maps and TMCore are proven technologies and they significantly enhance the user's ability to access and organise information," added Graham Moore, Director and Founder of NetworkedPlanet. "The TMCore EPiServer module provides users with a simple, powerful and scalable way to exploit the flexibility of Topic Maps. In the case of the Norwegian Education Department, the Topic Maps based navigation system was essential to what they were trying to achieve - allowing large amounts of public documentation to be classified, stored and accessed."

TMCore is NetworkedPlanet's server platform for developing enterprise knowledge and information management applications. The TMCore server stores and manages 'topic maps' of an organisation's content repositories. Topics hold information about themselves, links to related documents and links to other topics, creating a map of knowledge. This map can be browsed or searched by end-users to find information resources via key concepts. The result is a detailed index of the organisation's information resources across a number of systems via a single unified information portal.
