Impact redefines 'The Act of Leadership'

  • Richard Little announces powerful alternatives to conventional leadership development
  • Stand B102, CIPD Annual Conference & Exhibition, Harrogate, Yorkshire - 18th -20th September 2007

Windermere, U.K. - 11th September, 2007 - Impact, worldwide leaders in people development to create sustainable enterprises, will run a workshop at this year’s CIPD exhibition for corporate decision-makers, HR and recruitment personnel to demonstrate that conventional leadership programmes that start with prescriptive models of leadership don't translate into sustainable changed behaviour. Tailor-made leadership training is becoming much more sought after and Impact will demonstrate how businesses derive much greater benefits if they have been involved in the design and development of training and coaching programmes. Impact will also share examples of its innovative approaches to leadership training, such as community action-learning programmes, that start with an action that builds a picture of how leadership can influence real situations.

Richard Little, Senior Consultant at Impact, will run a workshop, entitled 'The Act of Leadership', on Thursday 20th September in the Recruitment and Talent Management Zone. The workshop will look at redefining the act of leadership, moving away from the traditional theories that outline what sort of a person is most likely to be a leader to explore Impact's powerful alternative to conventional leadership development - and one that creates a significant and sustainable change throughout the company.

"An act of leadership happens when someone sees an opportunity to take action and has the courage to do so," commented Richard Little. "It isn't about position and doesn’t require any special traits or characteristics. At Impact, we develop people's capacity for noticing when such actions are possible or necessary and help them to discover the ways in which they could respond. This approach results in people acting like leaders and starting to look and sound like leaders."

Impact will showcase its leadership approaches, programmes and simulations on its new website that will also stream highlights of the different projects the company has undertaken with leading international organisations including Sony, UBS, KPMG, The Welsh Assembly Government and ScottishPower that have been designed to encourage real-time leadership action.

The CIPD Annual Conference and exhibition is the largest forum to keep people management and development professionals up-to-date with the latest issues, thinking and trends. It is a platform from where leading organisations showcase practical case studies, masterclasses are put on by expert practitioners and gurus, and inspirational keynote speakers deliver practical tools and tips.
