Award-winning documentary BILLY THE KID to have its UK premiere on More4 this month

  • Intimate portrayal of a truly eccentric and unique adolescent - later diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome
  • Winner of Best Debut Feature at Cinema Eye Awards, and Best Documentary at LA and Edinburgh Film Festivals
  • IndiePix is Executive Producer

New York, US - 17 April, 2008 - The award-winning documentary BILLY THE KID is to premiere on UK television this month. BILLY THE KID will be shown on More4 on April 22nd at 10pm, following huge success in the US and worldwide critical acclaim. The film has just won Best Debut Feature at the Cinema Eye Awards, NYC for Director Jennifer Venditti, as well as scooping Best Documentary awards at the LA and Edinburgh Film Festivals.

BILLY THE KID is an inspiring portrayal of adolescence, which takes an intimate look at 15-year-old 'outsider' Billy. His troubled past and emotional problems have made him a truly unique character - but have also led to Billy being ostracised from his own community. Following the making of the film, Billy has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome.

Since its initial release in the US, the film has received rave reviews across the world, from The Guardian's Claire Birchell, to Stephen Farber at The Hollywood Reporter, who said, "Many memorable dramatic films about adolescence have been made over the decades, but few can match the impact of 'BILLY THE KID'."

Jennifer Venditti, Director of BILLY THE KID, commented: "I've always recognised beauty in the unconventional and wanted to make films that challenge the viewer's expectations. IndiePix loved BILLY THE KID right from the start and have provided invaluable support for the film and its release both in the US and abroad. Joint ventures like this are fantastic news for the development of the independent film industry."

After viewing BILLY THE KID in its second rough cut, IndiePix teamed up with Director, Jennifer Venditti and Producer, Chiemi Karasawa, to help finance the finishing of the film and support its theatrical release. BILLY THE KID has received recognition for its compassion and openness and the success of the film is now set to continue in the UK as More4 has purchased the rights to the film for two years.

"BILLY THE KID was one of the most unique films we had ever seen at IndiePix," explained Bob Alexander, President of IndiePix, "and since then, the film has received honours around the world, including the Jury Prize for Documentary at South By Southwest and the Audience Award at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

"We wanted to help support the film in as many ways as possible. Many independent films have to cease production because their budget runs out half way through. We're proud to be able to help finance fantastic independent films like BILLY THE KID, which don't have 'Hollywood' budgets to fall back on," concluded Bob Alexander.

BILLY THE KID will be screened on Channel 4/More4 on April 22nd at 10pm.
