IndiePix Partners with SnagFilms

  • Further proof of increasing strength of Internet as digital distribution model
  • Forty non-fiction films including ‘Red Without Blue’ and ‘Skid Row’ now available free-of-charge
  • Unique SNAGFILMStechnology enables any website, blog or social networking site to be used as a theatre to stream IndiePix films

New York, US - 18 July, 2008 - IndiePix, the Internet-based distributor of independent films, today announced a partnership with SnagFilms. SnagFilms was launched today and is the industry's first digital, widget-based distributor of non-fiction films. The SNAGFILMStechnology enables film lovers to stream award-winning IndiePix documentaries, free-of-charge, straight through their website, blog or social networking site so others can access the film - in full-screen and high-quality. The launch of this new digital distribution network highlights the increasing strength of the Internet at a time when studios and traditional distribution models are facing continuing financial difficulties.

SnagFilms' unique widget technology means that film lovers can stream high quality non-fiction films in full-screen and clear sound on any computer. Bloggers or website managers become internet exhibitors, presenting the films they enjoy by streaming them through their personal Internet-based theatres - be that a blog or a personal Facebook profile. IndiePix’s 40 non-fiction films are available through SnagFilms' website www.snagfilms.com/films/browse/category/indiepix/ and via its widgets free-of-charge, as the service is fully advertiser-supported.

IndiePix is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the SnagFilms distribution. The viewer will be able to buy the IndiePix title he has seen through the SNAGFILMSpresentation by simply pressing one of the two buttons on the SNAGFILMSwidget - "Buy The DVD" or "Download the DVD now!". The IndiePix distribution network will add an important additional commercial element to the powerful SnagFilms offering. "It has become clear that traditional distribution models don’t work for the independent film community - there is a huge gap between the Hollywood blockbusters and the indie scene; the same mould won't hold both products," commented Bob Alexander, President of IndiePix. "The SnagFilms launch begins to fill that gap."

"This new initiative from SnagFilms builds on the strength of the Internet as a distributor at a time when traditional labels are selling or folding their independent branches, so the launch of SnagFilms really is a breakthrough for frustrated non-fiction filmmakers and it couldn’t have come at a better time," continued Bob Alexander.

The range of IndiePix titles on offer highlights the controversial and thought-provoking stories that only independently sponsored non-fiction filmmakers can capture. Films available from IndiePix include 'Skid Row', which follows Pras Michael from the Fugees as he experiences, first hand, the escalating homeless issue in downtown LA, and 'Red Without Blue', an award-winning portrayal of twin-ship and gender change.

"Following on from the success of the Cinema Eye Awards for the independent film industry earlier this year, we wanted to become part of a platform that could distribute non-fiction films in the most effective way possible. The widget-based technology means that as one blogger hosts a widget on their site, hundreds of others around the globe may watch it, some of them may 'snag' the widget and put it on their own sites, allowing even more people to watch - and so on - the thought process behind SnagFilms is fantastic," said Bob Alexander.

Rick Allen, CEO of SnagFilms, added, "The independent film community is embracing change and transition instead of being left behind and we're working with the top providers of independent film and independent filmmakers, along with others who have for so long provided strategy and funding to the sector, to lead that process. We're very happy that IndiePix has chosen to work alongside us to provide the broadest audiences with free, easy access to award-winning documentaries."
