Comtrend launches two port Powerline solution

PowerGrid 9023 provides added flexibility for end-users

IP&TV World Forum, London, 17 March 2011 /Targetwire/Comtrend, a leading supplier of advanced networking solutions, today announces the launch of the PowerGrid 9023 Powerline Ethernet adapter. The latest addition to the PowerGrid product set based on Marvell Universal Powerline Association (UPA) technology is a two port variant of the highly successful PowerGrid 9020 which is used by BT Retail for their IPTV service, BT Vision. Comtrend Powerline products have already been supplied to over 1.5 million UK households with more than four million adapters shipped globally.

The PowerGrid 9023 allows end-users to connect multiple devices to the same reliable high speed connection provided for their IPTV set top box. Jonathan Lishawa, Managing Director, Comtrend UK, said, "Consumers today are using a variety of network enabled devices in the home. Set top boxes, TVs, games consoles, DVD and Blu-Ray players can now benefit from Internet connectivity and the PowerGrid 9023 is perfectly suited to this". With mass market adoption of HDTV, Internet TV services becoming more mainstream, and in the UK the launch of YouView, Powerline will provide a solution to the bandwidth and QoS requirements of distributing high definition content to TV screens throughout the home, leaving wireless networks free for other devices such as notebooks, tablets and smartphones.

Each adapter incorporates an advanced Ethernet switch enclosed in the same robust casing as used by the PowerGrid 9020 and builds upon the same innovative feature set. This includes dynamic energy management that adapts power consumption according to the bandwidth required by the network, as well as hibernating adapters in an active standby mode when not in use. The PowerGrid 9023 adapters deliver speeds up to 200 Mbps and the 9020 has already proven a hit with UK consumers, with 70% of customer reviews on amazon.co.uk giving it a 5 star rating. Both the PowerGrid 9020 and 9023 are backward compatible with the earlier PowerGrid 902 devices.

With more than 50% of Comtrend employees dedicated to R&D, innovation is set to continue with the development of products based on the new G.hn standard coming to market later in 2011. Gani Jusuf, VP Product Development, Marvell Semiconductors, said "Comtrend is a key partner for Marvell in the success of current UPA 200 Mbps Powerline technology. We are happy to continue our relationship and look forward to common success with G.hn" Comtrend has led the market in Powerline adapters for many years and was the first company to introduce filtered female pass through sockets and to position the Ethernet port on the top of adapters for the UK market.

The PowerGrid 9023 will be available for demonstration at the IP&TV World Forum 2011 hosted at London Olympia from 22nd to 24th March. Comtrend will be on stand number 237.
