Student named as President of Chinese Students and Scholars Association

A student at the University of Bristol in England has been named as the new President of a Chinese Students and Scholars Association [CSSA], an organisation committed to enabling Chinese students and researchers in the UK who are interested in China and its culture to experience a fuller life in the UK.

Mr Lei Wang, a second-year PhD student in the School of Economics, Finance and Management at the University, was named as President of CSSA-Bristol and will chair its committee for 2011-2012.

Established in the 1980s, CSSA-UK serves as a platform to bridge the gap between the east and western world by enhancing understanding and awareness among its members.

A non-political, non-religious and non-profit organisation, which organises, sponsors and supports various social and cultural activities among Chinese students and scholars in the UK. There are over 80 subsidiary associations throughout the UK, who maintain close connections with the intellectual community in China and other CSSA members across the world.

The organisation is committed to developing unique activities locally, nationally and internationally, and seeks to promote education and culture exchange between China and the UK through mutual dialogue and collaborative initiatives on a wide variety of issues.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Wang said: "The Chinese Students and Scholars Association is the official organisation for overseas Chinese students and scholars registered in most colleges, universities, and institutions outside of China. I am honoured to have been named President of such a prestigious organisation, and look forward to continuing our work spreading Chinese culture."
