Gordano celebrates new Cloud partnership with UK Government

London, UK – November 5th 2012 - /Targetwire/ Email solution provider, Gordano Ltd, has been accepted as a partner for G-Cloud II, a government programme that will drastically change the way the UK public sector procures and operates IT using cloud-based technology.

As a result of this Gordano were recently invited to London to present Gordano Messaging Services (GMS) to the Cabinet Office. Their requirements - a web-based email and document handling solution to enhance collaboration capabilities for public sector organisations.

Gordano, which has a global reputation for traditional on-premise (non-cloud) email solutions, is now using its expertise in the development of cloud email services and is carefully monitoring trends in this evolving technology.

Cloud computing has brought enormous changes to the economics and sustainability of IT solutions and the UK Government is committed to adopting it as part of its overall G-Cloud strategy. The initial focus is on introducing cloud ICT services into government departments, local authorities and the wider public sector. Cloud solutions are a primary focus for Gordano but the company is reminding those considering it, that for a business-critical application such as email, changes to the delivery of messaging services need to be carefully considered.

“Gordano continues to refine an integrated and interrelated product portfolio that offers a natural ingress into cloud deployment.” says Jonathan Joseph, Business Development Manager, Gordano, “Our cloud project is growing rapidly – we want to do it right, offering a true cloud solution, deployed against world class cloud infrastructure.”

Internally hosted (non-cloud) email will continue to be required by large sections of the market but trends indicate an increasing uptake of cloud equivalent services within the decade.

The G-Cloud strategy aims to achieve large, cross-government economies of scale, and deliver flexible and sustainable solutions using new cloud technologies that will deliver better results at lower cost. It will also allow government to procure in a way that encourages a dynamic and responsive supplier marketplace supporting new suppliers, allowing software vendors of all sizes to engage with new opportunities.

G-Cloud has been working to make the purchasing of public sector ICT as simple and transparent as possible. The result is CloudStore, an online portal that enables public sector organisations to access a catalogue of over 1,700 IT and communications services, making the process easier and more cost effective.

“At the Government Procurement Service our priority is to provide procurement savings for organisations across the UK public sector. The inclusion of Gordano Ltd to the G-Cloud II Framework platform will strengthen our offering and provide public sector buyers with a tried and tested route to achieve value for money.“

Marie-Helene Durif, Head of Sourcing & Category Management - ICT, at the Government Procurement Service.
