BillingTree goes "Freezin' for a Reason" to benefit Special Olympics

  • BillingTree's Steven Langlois participates in February 13 Polar Plunge
  • Teams with State Collection Service to raise over $14,000 and counting for Special Olympics, Wisconsin
Phoenix, Ariz. - BillingTree, a leading payment solutions provider joined forces with State Collection Service, Inc. this past weekend to raise funds for Special Olympics, Wisconsin. Dubbed "Freezin' for a Reason" the team from State Collections along with BillingTree's own Steven Langlois, Midwestern Regional Sales Manager, took the Polar Plunge® in Madison, WI raising over $14,000 to date.

State Collection's has participated in the event with a team of jumpers for five straight years, going back to 2012. The State 'Plunge Team' has grown with staff from the company's Madison and Beloit offices and added first time participation from BillingTree's Steven Langlois in 2016. This year's plunge was hosted at Willow Island at Madison's Alliant Energy Center, where average temperatures this time of year in Madison hover in the mid-20's. The 2016 team once again braved the elements to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

"Being a part of the Polar Plunge is something we have greatly enjoyed over the past several years," said Tim Haag, Vice President of Support Services at State Collection Service. "Our employees are incredibly committed to serving their communities and, as an organization, we appreciate the opportunity to support our staff and important causes such as the Special Olympics."

For the first time in 2016, State Collection Service committed to being a corporate sponsor of the event. In partnership with BillingTree, the sponsorship further strengthens the commitment both companies have to being good corporate citizens. "BillingTree is committed to giving back to the communities we serve through volunteer hours and charitable donations," said Dave Yohe, VP of Marketing for BillingTree. "Our participation in this year's Polar Plunge along with State Collection Service is a testament to our staff's dedication to this key corporate value."

Since 1999, the Polar Plunge, with its jumpers and supporters, has raised nearly $19 million for Special Olympics athletes in Wisconsin. Not only does the money raised help various Olympic-type sports offered year-round, including National and World Games, it also supports free health care screenings for the athletes. Since it began, the Polar Plunge has given over 10,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to experience joy, pride and respect.
